Dar Brooks is an award winning multi-media artist.  She teaches classes and workshops in art, creativity, creative visualization, personal growth and transition, to adults and children.  Dar has enjoyed teaching in the Twin Cities art community for groups and art centers for over twenty two years.  She has been on the faculty of the Edina Art Center for fifteen years.  She also travels regularly as an instructor at art centers and for art groups around the state of Minnesota.  She has taught in many areas of the United States, in France, and in Mexico. 

   Dar’s teaching style is fun, spontaneous, and easy for adults and children to follow along as they enhance their art skills.  She has a passion for teaching and makes every hour an adventure.  Dar teaches a variety of inspiring classes for beginners to experienced artists.

   Dar presently specializes in vibrant abstract designs and enjoys the free spontaneity of using watercolor, inks, and acrylics with mixed media.  She is an intuitive painter who thrives on experimentation.  Dar is constantly aware of the power of color and uses it with her evolutionary techniques to create exciting, textural illusions and dramatic collages.  This is accomplished by use of abstract design forms and striking color, though a touch of reality may be present.  Dar, an expressionist, puts a premium on expressing her emotions through her art.  She lives ‘in the moment’ of each piece that she creates, hoping that others will be touched by her work.  When there is viewer participation she feels that she has accomplished her goal of entertaining with her art. Her artwork is currently showing art at the International Euro Greens Gallery in Hong Kong.

   Dar has experienced extensive art study with well known artists such as, Frank Webb, Barbara Nechis, Louise Cadillac, Zolten Zobo, Railegh Kenny, Karlyn Holman,

Virgina Cobb, Polly Hammett, and Maxine Masterfield.  Her formal studies include The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, The University of Minnesota, and the University of Wisconsin.

   Dar has been on the board of directors for Midwest Originals Art Gallery, Minnesota Watercolor Society and Burnsville Area Society for the Arts.  She was the workshop chair and the program chair for four years for Minnesota Watercolor Society. Dar has also been a juror and judge for many art exhibitions.

   Besides being a member of many art organizations, Dar continues to judge and jury art exhibitions.  She also offers works of art to be enjoyed and owned by the public, and provides her unique talents on a consultant basis in the area of coordinating artwork with environments and personalities.  Dar loves offering her skillful talents by demonstrating her techniques for groups.  She teaches a class to stimulate creativity, and another class using hypnosis to add creativity and impact to the artist’s work.
